Facebook Causes

Facebook Causes are similar to Facebook Groups - except that they are generally built around more meaningful issues and are supposedly designed to make a different.

The only way people can actually make any difference through Causes is by donating, which generally goes towards a charity related to the Cause. Most Causes however will have thousands of supporters, very little money raised, and in effect do very little if anything at all.

A good campaign on The Point, on the other hand, should allow people to commit a meaningful action that represents a significant chance to realize actual change. Inviting the members of relevant Facebook Causes to your campaign gives them an opportunity to put their money where their mouth is and actually do something about the issue they say they care about.

Finding Facebook Causes

  1. Click here to add the Causes Application to your Facebook account
  2. Click "Find Causes" and then "Browse Causes" to search for keywords relevant to your campaign.
  3. Browse through the groups to find those that are both relevant to your campaign AND which have the most users.

Messaging Facebook Causes

  1. In order to write on a group wall, you must join the group. Click "Join Group" in the upper right corner of the Group page.
  2. Scroll towards the bottom until you see the "wall." Click on the dialog box that says "write something..." and leave a message with a link to the campaign.
  3. If the wall is at the very bottom, and at the top of the group page the admins have other permanent links that are highly visible, you may choose to write a message to the Facebook Group admin asking them to leave a link to the campagin on the page.
  4. To prevent spamming, Facebook stops people from leaving the same link in too many walls. Don't be shy - announcing your campaign to groups that will care about it is not spamming. For this reason, don't leave the same link in more than 3 walls in the same day. To leave more than 3 wall posts in a day, you can create different short-cut links at these link-shortening sites: >* http://tinyurl.com/
